2015 Film & Photography Finalists

Now in our fifth year, we are excited to present the 2015 top 12 documentary photography grant finalists and the 2015 top 10 documentary film award finalists. This year’s jury selection will be the most competitive ever with submissions from around the globe covering diverse stories of flight from conflict, poverty, political violence, environmental damage, gender violence and worker exploitation. This year’s finalists are from 16 countries and 5 continents. Judging in both categories will take place the week of July 6, 2015 at our new exhibition facilities in Arles, France during Les Rencontres d’Arles.

2014 Photography Grant Portfolio

Mohamed Ali Eddin, MROF 2014 Photography Laureate, shows us stunning scenes of strong will and spirit while exposing hazardous working conditions and exploitation in the limestone quarries of Upper Egypt in his completed grant project Life of Quarry Workers. Over the course of 2014 he documented the harrowing travels of these men, young and old, to the quarries and the hard, unhealthy and dangerous conditions in which they labor. Yet despite the loss of limbs and even lives, Mohamed captures their strength of character and dedication to their families that keeps them returning to the quarries. See his portfolio here.

Remembering Lucien Clergue

Lucien Clergue

We honor the life and work of Lucien Clergue (1934 – 2014) – friend, advisor, Rencontres d’Arles founder, inspired photographer, artist. Beyond a great photographer, one of the best, Lucien was a great man with a huge giving heart for anyone trying to make it in the world of photography. We will miss his compassion, presence and his ever knowing gentlemanly smile.
