Plastic Crowns

Phumzile KHANYILE

A series of self-portraits, Plastic Crowns explores aspects of women's lives through evocations of her own experiences, social taboos in her explicit exploration of sexual politics. There is little distinction between her work and her own life in the images, which read like a diary. His gritty aesthetic, characterised by harsh shadows, soft focus and lush textures, gives his work a notable emotional quality.
