Modus Inoperandi
Maud MARTIN
Based on scenarios anticipating possible future lifestyles, Maud
Martin drew up a list of neologisms that were then used as prompts to generate
images using artificial intelligence. These objects, as plausible as they are dysfunctional,
appear as absurd relics of our techno-in-dustrial society. By thwarting
predictive systems through language, this series invites us to question our
imaginations and our relationship with technical objects. The use of an invented
vocabulary constitutes a field of experimentation here, with the resulting
images appearing as footnotes to an imagined fiction. The machine’s element of
error creates a gap into which it seems tempting to step, to escape the program
and reveal its absurdity.
