Thrutopia

INLAND

In times of great challenges,
“Thrutopia is about getting through what is coming responsibly, transformatively in the best way we can.” - Rupert Read.

This installation highlights creative initiatives of resistance and perseverance in a context where climate disturbances have not been halted, environmental pollution is worsening, and fundamental liberties are losing ground. In three scenes, together with a prologue and epilogue, the authors show us that, in times of great upheaval, the worst is never certain. The first scene tells the story of those people who defy pollution, give new life to memories of the landscape, and protect biodiversity. The second portrays brilliant heroines, sirens sounding the alarm, who have chosen not to be victimized, to learn a trade, to heal, to protect a river. Finally, images of Kurds returning to their villages, of the reawakening of the Dragons in Serbia, and the cultural resistance of the Uyghurs in Kazakhstan tell the stories of the reconquest of a land, of an identity. As an epilogue, we see thousand-year-old trees in a twilight American landscape.
